Each sector has been analysed historically to develop a water demand forecast. The water demand forecast was achieved through the development of econometric water demand models, which correlate water demand to expected and prevailing trends in related socio-economic and environmental factors. Collection of data concerning the domestic, agriculture industrial and tourism sectors including climate data dating back to the last 50 years was carried out.
The forecast has been tested for sensitivity to different assumptions and incorporates different scenarios and the characterisation of water demand variations and trends to develop an understanding of spatial variations in water demand and foreseen changes to which water production and distribution infrastructure will need to respond. The demand forecast was developed to project water demand in the next 50 years
