C8 Development of a Managed Aquifer Recharge Scheme in the Pwales Groundwater Body

This action will serve as a pilot project for the development of a Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) Scheme in the Pwales Coastal Groundwater Body in the North of Malta. The action proposes the undertaking of a number of tasks, to ensure the development of a Managed Aquifer Recharge scheme to enable the reliable assessment of its impact.  The recharged high quality water is expected to flow through the narrow saturated zone characterising this body of groundwater and flush out conventional pollutants such as chlorides and nitrates which are found in high levels in this body of groundwater; reflecting the intense agricultural activities undertaken in its recharge area.
